Tim Ouillette

Tim Ouillette is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern University, where he specializes in video production, directing, and cinematography. With over two decades of experience in professional media production and higher education, Tim prepares students for careers in film, television, and digital storytelling through hands-on, project-based learning.

Tim’s professional work includes contributions to acclaimed productions for HBO, American Masters, Frontline, Discovery, and National Geographic. His industry background spans documentary, narrative, and commercial work, with a particular focus on directing, cinematography, and post-production. He is also the owner and creative director of Munjoy Hill Media, a Portland, Maine–based production company that collaborates with nonprofits, artists, and community organizations on a wide range of media projects—from live broadcasts and music videos to promotional campaigns and documentary films.

At Northeastern, Tim teaches courses in studio and field production, cinematography, directing, digital editing, special effects, and sound design. His teaching emphasizes visual storytelling, creative collaboration, and professional production practices.

Tim holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University and a BA in Communication from the University of Southern Maine. He is committed to media education that blends creative vision with technical skill, helping students develop their voices as filmmakers and storytellers.

Research/Publications Highlights

  • 2017: Cinematography for upcoming PBS documentary on Ted Williams. PBS will air it on American Masters nationally on August 2018. Some of the interviews include Roger Angel, Wade Boggs, Emily DiMaggio and Bob Costas. You will find more press from PBS here.
  • 2017: Imperishable, a short film created as part of the Famer/Artist partnership in conjunction with the Harlow Gallery funded by the Maine Community Foundation. Was 1 of 12 artists selected from a pool of 113. Screenings of the film will be at the Harlow Gallery on Oct 14 th 2017 followed by an artist talk.
  • 2017: Producing short film on Sexual Assault amongst Humanitarian workers. Funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Norway and Diginitas Research Innovation Fund. Film was picked up by sexual assault trainers and will be seen by all future incoming UN Aid workers.
  • 2016/2017: Produced, filmed, and edited 30-minute documentary, Struggle for Recovery: Women’s Stories from Northern Uganda on the effects of post-war reparations in Northern Uganda in the Acholi and Lango region. Funded by the UK Aid and Irish Aid through Feinstein International Center. After seeing this the Ministry of Foreign affairs in England publically pledged over 2 million pounds to war wounded.
