For Fall 2020, the studio will be open 7 days a week, from 6 a.m-11:00 p.m.
For this year, we need to shut the studio overnight for regular cleaning.

Trash

Please keep the studio clean and recycle properly. Poor waste disposal creates an unsafe working environment, attracting pests and contaminating recycling systems. We use the following color-coded system:

  • Grey bins – trash, food, foam core, etc.
  • Blue bins – mixed paper
  • Green bins – blades
  • Blue hampers – cardboard or foam core (check labels)

Anything left on the floor will be thrown out. Store materials inside or on top of the assigned desk.

Please dispose of blades properly. Poor blade disposal leads to serious injuries. Loose blades are not allowed on desks, stuck into desk boards, discarded in the trash/recycling receptacles or collected in homemade containers.

Note that foam core is not recyclable. If is is mixed with other materials, all of it will be trash.

Access

Please keep pathways and fire extinguisher areas (marked by red tile) clear for fire safety.

Maintain the integrity of the studio. Enter and exit only through the security office.

Do not leave belongings unattended and secure laptops with a lock. Do not assume bags, cell phones, or belongings are safe. Notify security of anything suspicious.

Do not move pin-up partitions or desks into critique spaces. Instructors need those areas.

Furniture

Please do not tamper with, dismantle, or move the furniture. Do not mount to, attach to, screw into, adhere to, or dismantle any of the chairs or desks.

Please do not cut directly on the tabletops. Use an appropriate cutting surface.

Please do not bring furniture or appliances into the studio. Chairs, couches, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, etc. will be removed without notice.

Please do not use or tamper with other students’ desks. Desks are individually assigned, so if there is any work to be done make sure it does not interfere with another student’s space.

Please leave the light fixtures alone. Bulbs need to remain in the track lighting fixtures at all times.

Environment

Do not store models and materials in the Uni-strut system.

Please use music and media quietly or use headphones.

Please do not use spray mount or spray paint in the studio. These materials are hazardous, flammable, and they make a mess. Go outside and use a backdrop.

No smoking, drugs or alcohol allowed in the studio. Smoking is not allowed in any University building, and illegal drugs are prohibited on campus. The studio is a public space; no intoxication or alcoholic beverages are permitted.

End of the Semester

Please remove all of work, material, and equipment at the end of the semester. Anything left behind will be discarded. Be responsible and recycle.

It is important that everyone do their part to ensure the safety and comfort of all.

Reporting Issues

If there are issues in studio (temperature control, lighting issues, leaks, broken furniture, etc.), please contact the Architecture office at 617.373.4637. A work-order will be submitted to resolve the issue.

Do not hesitate to let the faculty and staff know if there are problems to ensure that everything is in good working order.
