Theatre chair Scott Edmiston‘s 2017 production of Constellations, a Boston premiere, won an Elliot Norton Award last night for Outstanding Production. It is a play about string theory and the multiverse concept and was produced by the Underground Railway Theatre in Central Square which frequently produces plays about the sciences.

Constellations beat his production of Shakespeare in Love in the same category! The two-person cast featured part-time theatre faculty Marianna Bassham. Marianna was also nominated for Outstanding Actress and will appear in New York next fall in a world premiere at the prestigious Playwrights Horizons.

This is the second year in a row one of Scotts productions won this award. Last year Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf won Outstanding Production. He also won in 2016 when his production of My Fair Lady won Outstanding Musical Production. (I was nominated for directing Constellations and Shakespeare in Love but didn’t win.)

David Reiffel, the musical director of faculty member Antonio Ocampo-Guzman‘s production of Man of La Mancha, and Scott’s Shakespeare in Love won Outstanding Musical Director.
