Agriculture and modern food systems have continually transformed the natural habitats of the Northeastern region and rural areas at large. I am proposing a design and policy framework to reverse this trajectory. This project proposes a “work of commoning,” where unused private lands are repurposed for the “common good” which, in this case, are pollinator habitats. I designed a policy that allows farmers and landowners to make their unused land available to be transformed into pollinator landscapes. These reclaimed ecological spaces aim to revive the native ecosystem of the region and strives to rewire the pollinator corridor. The stewardship of unused lands will be overseen by a local NGO that will coordinate their transformations into native landscapes for the common benefit of the entire Pioneer Valley.
