We are pleased to announce the 2016-2017 competition for Excellence in Teaching as well as two new college-wide faculty honors: Excellence in Research and Creative Activity & Distinguished Service Faculty Award.

The Excellence in Teaching, Excellence in Research and Creative Activity, and Distinguished Service Faculty Awards will be granted annually to faculty who have been employed at Northeastern for at least three years.

Descriptions of each award follows below. Additional information regarding the application processes and criteria will be distributed as the deadlines for each award approach. Nominations for all awards will be evaluated by the CAMD Executive Committee.

Each award comes with a $500 prize. Recipients will be featured in CAMD marketing materials and honored at the CAMD graduation ceremony.

Excellence in Teaching

CAMD will bestow two Excellence in Teaching Awards in 2017. The deadline for nominations will be December 16, 2016 by 5 p.m. Award winners will be announced on February 1, 2017. One of the two winners will be nominated for the University-wide Excellence in Teaching Award.

Nominees for the Excellence in Teaching Award will be evaluated based on the following criteria: curricular innovations in the classroom as well as in the development of new courses and programs; evidence of excellent teaching; evidence of research-led teaching; evidence of positive impact on student learning; and evidence of professional development relative to teaching.

Excellence in Research and Creative Activity

CAMD will bestow the Excellence in Research and Creativity Award to one faculty member in 2017. In January, a call for nominations for the Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award will be made to the CAMD community. The award winner will be announced on March 15, 2017.

The Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity will be granted to a faculty member who holds a record of significant achievements in his/her discipline. These achievements should be relevant and impactful at the national scale within that person’s field.

Faculty who are nominated will be notified and asked to submit the following via single PDF document:

  • Nominator letter (no more than two pages)
  • Chair letter of support
  • CV (of nominee)
  • Two-page research statement
  • Up to three examples of works completed in the past three years

These materials must be submitted by February 15, 2017.

Distinguished Service Faculty Award 

CAMD will bestow one Distinguished Service Faculty Award in 2017. In January, a call for nominations for the Distinguished Service Faculty Award will be made to the CAMD community. The award winner will be announced on March 15, 2017.

The Distinguished Service Faculty Award will be granted to a faculty member whose contributions to their Department, College and University create notable benefits to the systems, situations and shared environments of the academic community. Recipients of this award will have consistently taken on a significant service load, contributing to initiatives and committees throughout the university, helping to build programs and manage resources in support of a community mission, constructively collaborating with colleagues and creating a superlative model of faculty participation in a variety of contexts.

Faculty who are nominated will be notified and asked to submit the following via single PDF document:

  • Nominator letter (no more than two pages)
  • Chair letter of support
  • Two-page narrative

These materials must be submitted by February 15, 2017.
