This year, Northeastern University’s College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) held its third annual graduation ceremony on May 2, 2019 to honor its graduates and celebrate their remarkable achievements. Hosted at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena, the event attracted more than 1,200 guests as CAMD graduates, both at the undergrad and graduate level, took the time to reflect upon and acknowledge their productive and meaningful careers as students while looking forward to their future impacts.

Dean Elizabeth Hudson welcomed graduating students and their guests and highlighted the accomplishments and successes each department has seen during the 2018-2019 academic year. CAMD acknowledged eight students for their academic, experiential and global achievements:

CAMD also recognized the exception work of five faculty members:

Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Faculty Award

  • Thomas Nakayama, Professor of Communication Studies

Distinguished Service Faculty Award

  • Allen Feinstein, Teaching Professor of Music, Director of Bands, Head Advisor

Excellence in Teaching Award

  • David Fannon, Assistant Professor of Architecture
  • Susan Mello, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
  • Douglass Scott, Senior Lecturer of Design, Art + Design

The guest speaker was Theatre alumnus Saheem Ali ’03, who delivered a poignant message about following one’s passion and taking creative risks. He reminded the audience how important the arts and creativity are in today’s modern global marketplace. The audience also had the opportunity to hear from CAMD’s Dean Elizabeth Hudson.
