The Center for Transformative Media (CTM) is thrilled to introduce that we have over 10 new talented students and researchers who have just come on board.
Our researchers and research assistants are working on a variety of different projects, from creating engaging visualizations to helping preserve the history of mobile gaming.

Ridwanullah Abdulhameed holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mass communication from Bayero University, Nigeria. Prior to Northeastern, he served as a faculty member at Skyline University Nigeria.
- Title: Ph.D. candidate in interdisciplinary design and media at Northeastern CAMD
- Project: Exploring the impact of hate speech in low-resource Nigerian languages on democratic processes
Jahangir Babar is a graduate student in engineering management at Northeastern. He has a background in software engineering and seven years of filmmaking experience. He uses his technical and creative skills to study how new media affects society.
- Title: Video and Audio Production Assistant
- Project: Editing podcast-style videos for the Oral History of Mobile Communication project
Dana Bullister holds a bachelor’s in computer science and cognitive science from Wellesley College and an MS in information design and data visualization from Northeastern University.
- Title: Ph.D. candidate in interdisciplinary design and media at Northeastern CAMD
- Project: Combining data visualization, systems design, and communication technologies to create tools for transparent, efficient and equitable policy outcomes
Mallika Gaikwad is pursuing a master’s in data analytics engineering at Northeastern. She combines her skills in data analysis and graphic design to create visually engaging solutions.
- Title: Information Visualization Assistant
- Project: Enhancing visualizations on the Mobile Networked Creativity (MNC) Project’s website using Story Maps to improve user engagement and experience
Kannan Karthikeyan is a software engineering graduate student at Northeastern who blends his lifelong passion for gaming with technical expertise to advance the RMGD initiative.
- Title: Retro Mobile Gaming Database Development and Maintenance Assistant
- Project: Contributing to and organizing the Retro Mobile Gaming Database (RMGD), an online resource for early mobile games
Raja Antony Mandal is pursuing an MS in Digital Media and Communications at Northeastern. With six years of experience in content writing, marketing and strategy, he now works closely with the CTM’s communications team to help promote the center’s research and mission.
- Title: Communication Research Assistant
- Project: Researching and creating tailored communication strategies for the center
Trujillo Milo is a postdoc at the Network Science Institute’s Communication Media and Marginalization Lab. His research focuses on content moderation, alternative tech platforms, decentralized social networks, and open-source governance.
- Title: Postdoctoral Researcher
- Project: Studying how academic open-source software projects transition to community-led initiatives
Arslan Parkar is pursuing an MS in information systems at Northeastern. He has experience in leading an AI-driven startup and has done impactful research projects focusing on innovative, user-centric solutions.
- Title: Retro Mobile Gaming Development Assistant
- Project: Developing and maintaining a scalable, user-friendly platform for the Retro Mobile Gaming Database
Emma Stanley is a fifth-year Ph.D. student at NC State University studying technology and its influence on urban mobility.
- Title: Ph.D. candidate at NC State University
- Project: Studying how smartphone applications and media using GPS affect our relationship with physical spaces
Yukun Yang studies how social media affects our understanding of race and ethnicity. He previously worked as a data scientist at Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research. He holds a master’s degree in information science from the University of North Carolina.

- Project: Digital race-making, political communication, online transracialism and teamwork in science
