Are you passionate for social justice and captivated by the digital age? Are you eager to get the cutting-edge skills necessary to advance in strategic communications, corporate strategy, lobbying, public relations or political messaging?

Northeastern University’s Master’s in Media Advocacy will prepare you for a career in digital advocacy with courses that explore and apply tools and methods from activism, communications, journalism, politics and law that are increasingly employed by communications professionals looking to move the public, micro-target voters and convert customers.

A collaboration between Northeastern University’s School of Journalism and School of Law, this degree will give you a foundation in government and the legal system with sophisticated training in the latest digital communication techniques. These include social media, web communications and videography, as well as data analytics and data-driven storytelling.

Northeastern is the only university to offer a Master’s program that provides training in advocacy from a legal and communications perspective, along with instruction in the sophisticated media tools essential to making that advocacy effective. Our faculty members include nationally renowned lawyers and legal scholars, prize-winning journalists, experts in corporate public relations and messaging, and advocates of multicultural rights, income equality, data protection and the environment. As one of their students, you’ll have the opportunity to specialize in a specific area of study, such as civil rights, public relations, political messaging, environmental policy or experience design. And as part of Northeastern’s famed co-op program, you’ll gain connections to world-renowned corporations, including Hewlett Packard, New Balance, Young & Rubicam, WGBH, The Boston Globe, CNBC, CNN, as well as state, local and national government offices and non-profit and advocacy organizations.

Northeastern graduates have gone on to work for senators like Elizabeth Warren and members of Congress like Niki Tsongas. They have started human rights advocacy groups, fought for policy reform with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, helped launch media startups at Matter V.C., and gained legal expertise at firms like Ropes & Gray, LLP. Our students have also won prestigious fellowships with Google News Lab, the White House, and The New York Times.
