Adam Kenny, AMD ’16, is a Music Industry senior who has a special mission in the coming weeks — to represent Northeastern at one of the largest music events in the country, SXSW in Austin, Texas. He and 3 other CAMD students will be headed to Austin for the music festival on March 15. We sat down and asked him a few questions about SXSW as well as his experience at Northeastern.
1. What made you decide to major in (Music Industry)?
To be honest, I don’t think I could do anything else. Throughout high school I struggled to find a path that I could truly connect with. In the midst of that confusion, the only thing that remained constant was my connection to music.
While I initially left school in pursuit of a degree in architecture, I quickly realized my relationship with music was becoming much more than a form of entertainment and escape. I made the decision that no matter what I do in life, it needed to involve my true passion. Studying Music Industry at a school with well-established connections in the business, as well as a program that encouraged the utilization of those connections first hand, was a must. Northeastern was the perfect platform.
2. Describe Northeastern in three words.
Long. Live. Loans.
3. What has been your favorite experience at Northeastern?
While my favorite experience may not have occurred on campus, the arrival of my acceptance letter (instead of the rejection letter I received the year prior — no hard feelings) was by far the most rewarding moment during my time at Northeastern. Without being accepted I would have never got the chance to experience anything this school has to offer and I’m seriously grateful to be given the opportunity.
4. What’s your dream job?
Any job that offers the opportunity to help collaborate in the creation of a unique live music experience would be awesome. As of now, I’m setting my sights on working at a booking agency or a company that specializes in events and music marketing. Eventually I’d love to own and operate my own venues. I just need one thing…money.
5. What are you looking forward to most at SXSW?
I’d have to say the atmosphere. Just having the opportunity to interact with people working the in industry and getting the chance to catch a glimpse of the insanely diverse collection of bands will be performing this year will be an amazing and invaluable experience.
6. If you were running for President, what would your slogan be?
Anyone want a bagel?
