Lauren Bodin, AMD ’18, is a Music Industry major who has a special mission in the coming weeks — to represent Northeastern at one of the largest music events in the country, SXSW in Austin, Texas. She and 3 other CAMD students will be headed to Austin for the music festival on March 15. We sat down and asked her a few questions about SXSW as well as her experience at Northeastern.
1. What made you decide to major in (Music Industry)?
I’ve always been intrigued by the live music scene. I grew up going to a bunch of concerts, my mom always being extremely supportive and bringing me around Boston to see some of my favorite bands. Finding out that a music industry program actually existed was kind of a no brainer.
2. Describe Northeastern in three words.
Entrepreneurial. Focused. Opportunity.
3. What has been your favorite experience at Northeastern?
My favorite experience at Northeastern was being accepted into the NU.in program where I spent my first semester in London, England.
4. What’s your dream job?
My dream job would be working in A&R at a label in New York City—Neon Gold, Glassnote Records, Island Records would all be a dream.
5. What are you looking forward to most at SXSW?
The mentor sessions! I think it’s absolutely incredible that so many industry professionals make themselves available to us to answer any questions or offer advice. It’s definitely a huge asset to the festival that differentiates it from the others.
6. If you had to choose on superpower, what would it be?
I would love to have the power to mute anyone at anytime.
