David Herlihy

David Herlihy is a Full Teaching Professor in the College of Arts, Media & Design, and adjunct Faculty at Northeastern University School of Law. David is also an intellectual property attorney, a transactional entertainment lawyer, a Billboard-charting songwriter, and multi-award-winning lead singer for O POSITIVE, a Boston-based musical group with full-length albums on Epic Records and several independent record labels.

David’s research explores the intersections of human expression, technology, entrepreneurship, and capitalism, and he is very adept in the exploration of business models for the creative economy. David coordinates Northeastern’s Music Industry Program, and serves as Faculty Advisor for Green Line Records, the University’s student-run record label. He also supervises Good Dog Licensing, a unique, first-of-its kind enterprise anywhere in the US—a student-run music licensing service, operated within a university setting.

David received Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and is admitted to practice before Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and the U.S. Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He is a Member of ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and continues to write, record, perform live and release original music on all streaming platforms.
