The Political Communication Minor is a joint program offered through the Departments of Communication Studies, Political Science, and Journalism. The focus of the minor is on the electoral process, political rhetoric, and the role of media in political life. It is intended to address the interests and needs of students considering careers in the political sphere, either as candidates, employees, volunteers, or reporters in political organizations and campaigns.

The Public Relations minor will teach students the critical communication skills needed to be able to effectively communicate information to its’ audience.

The Rhetoric minor offers students the opportunity to acquire competence in the history, theory, and criticism of civic discourse and cultural practices.

Students interested in activism will have opportunities to explore social movements, advocacy, and citizenship in a wide array of situations.

The minor in songwriting offers students a chance to build songwriting skills through classes that focus on craft, collaboration, music theory, and songwriting business practice.

This program examines the symbiotic relationship between sports and media, as well as how communication affects team culture, player-coach dynamics, crises in sport, race and gender issues, international relationships, and fandom.

Theatre minors select a path that uniquely matches their interests in areas such as acting, stage design, technical production, and dramatic literature, whether for career exploration or creative expression.

This innovative minor cultivates 21st century citizens who are passionate about engaging with cultural and social problems through theatre, and performance activities that encourage progressive social change.

This multidisciplinary program focuses on stage design as a collaborative process that interactively engages with performance. Students explore the conceptual transformation of dramatic texts through design thinking and develop the technical skills to realize their artistic vision.

The minor advances skills in analyzing and designing ecological systems of the built environment, particularly from a socio-ecologic perspective .
