The Art Stu­dios for 2D Fundamentals, 3D Fundamentals, and drawing courses that stu­dents take as a pre­req­ui­site for their majors have glass win­dows on two sides for nat­ural light­ing, high ceil­ings, and good sight­lines for basic panting and fig­ure draw­ing classes. Pro­fes­sional easels, tables, stools, and sinks are avail­able for stu­dent use.

Our com­put­ers are upgraded and aug­mented to match changes in cur­ricu­lum, tech­nol­ogy, and software. All com­puter labs pro­vide access to Adobe Cre­ative Suite, and advanced ani­ma­tion soft­ware such as Maya and Mud­box, Google Sketchup Pro, Microsoft Office, and other appli­ca­tion packages.

Printing
Cost-effective print­ing on black-and-white and color laser print­ers (up to tabloid size) is avail­able. Student-accessible print­ing is also avail­able in the Snell Library’s Dig­i­tal Media Commons and around campus.

Northeastern’s Digital Media Common serves the community by providing crucial workspaces, technology, research and technology assistance. Located on the 2nd floor of Snell Library, the DMC is open 24/7 to serve Northeastern community members across campus.

The lab encompasses high-end technology that fosters an environment of development and learning, drives independent and collaborative projects pursued by faculty and students, and supports experiential course work. Current work in the lab includes: biometrics-driven research with eye-tracking glasses, Shimmer and iMotion software; design research and digital storytelling with tools such as 360 VR cameras, Magic Leap, Hololens and Occulus Go; user testing with a one-way mirror environment, camera setups and high end computing. We strive to remove road blocks in the creation process, utilizing digital tools and new media to make emerging technology projects come to life.

The Makerspace and suite of studios contains state of the art equipment including 3D printers, CNC and laser cutters, vacuum-forming gear, and of course, many environmental safety controls. Developed for creative collaboration among arts-related disciplines, this shared space is also an incubator for cross-pollination with science, technology, business, and a host of other fields.

225 Shillman
The Media Studios serve as hands-on video and audio training facilities for all CAMD students. The studios were recently upgraded. The space and equipment are utilized to create live television programming and to edit a wide variety of video projects.

Along with 2 TV studios and control room, the facilities comprises of 27 cutting-edge workstations supporting Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro, as well as an in-house Avid server.

Field equipment such as HD camcorders, DSLR video/still cameras, microphones, tripods, LED light kits, video monitors, and audio recorders are available to students.

The studios also house a professional music and audio recording facility. A cutting-edge Motion Capture system that utilizes 18 cameras to detect and encode objects and motion without traditional body sensors is available to students.

240 Shillman Green-Screen Room
Special effects work requires a facility for removing or keying out the background behind the actors. The green-screen room allows students to capture live action footage using high definition digital cameras.

Equipment Signout
Stu­dents enrolled in photo classes are able to bor­row or return equip­ment from the Photo Lab Cage dur­ing its hours of oper­a­tion. (Usu­ally 9 to 5, Mon­day through Fri­day; please check sched­ule for exact hours.) Equip­ment sign outs are for 24 hours dur­ing the week, or over the week­end. It is the student’s respon­si­bil­ity to return all equip­ment when it is due. If you will be late return­ing equip­ment, call the Co-op, and a $10 per item/per day late fee will accrue. An ID card will be required in exchange for equip­ment rental. You are respon­si­ble for any loss or dam­age to bor­rowed equip­ment. Fail­ure to com­ply with these rules may result in loss of the priv­i­lege to bor­row equip­ment, or to use the photo lab facil­i­ties. Learn more about the Equipment Signout Permission.

Epson Printing Guidelines
The Photo Lab can print images on its Epson print­ers based on print­ing pro­to­cols. Print­ing ser­vices are depen­dent on the avail­abil­ity of the staff and the printer sta­tus. Please allow 24 to 72 hours for your prints to be avail­able. Learn more about the lab’s print­ing ser­vice in the Epson Printing Guidelines.

Darkroom Procedures
