College of Arts, Media and Design Graduate Student Scholarships (GSS)

Admitted full-time master’s students are automatically considered for GSS funding as part of the graduate program application review. GSS award notifications will be available via the application portal at the time of admission or shortly thereafter.

These merit-based scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are intended to support superior academic achievement at Northeastern. GSS awards are determined on the basis of departmental recommendations and are offered as a percentage tuition reduction.

Graduate Assistantships

Assistantships are compensated as hourly pay and can take the form of research, teaching, and administrative roles within a student’s academic department. Students are eligible to apply for available assistantship positions after completing at least one semester of their graduate program.

Graduate tuition is charged per credit. The 2025 – 2026 graduate tuition rate for the College of Arts, Media and Design is $2,059 per credit. Additionally, information regarding fees is available via the link above.

All tuition and fees are subject to revision by Northeastern University’s Board of Trustees.

After your admissions notification, you will receive an email with instructions for claiming your Northeastern account.  Your Northeastern username and password provide access to key university services including the Student Hub, email accounts, university networks and other university systems.

For students who will be studying in the US, if you need the Form I-20, a U.S. immigration document issued by Northeastern University to certify that you have met admission requirements for a full-time program of study and have provided sufficient financial support for your studies, the Office of Global Services (OGS) will process the request for the I-20 only after you have accepted the admission offer, paid the deposit, received the Foreign Credential Evaluation Clearance (for degrees earned outside the US) and provided the required information and supporting documentation through the e-form in the online portal for Northeastern University international students. The I-20 is required to apply for an F-1 student visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate and to be in F-1 status within the U.S., so we encourage you to provide your documentation as soon as possible to provide ample time for the issuance of the I-20 and for your visa application process.

You must either submit financial and biographical information and documents to request an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status, or you must submit your current study eligible visa classification if you will not request an I-20 and choose to remain in your current status.

Please note that some academic programs at Northeastern University have experiential learning requirements (e.g., co-op or study abroad). Immigration statuses other than F-1 may not allow for participation in such activities. If you are currently in another visa status and choose not to switch to an F-1 status, you may impact your ability to study full-time or engage in authorized employment/training, such as an internship, co-op or practicum. Should you have any questions on applying for a change of status to F-1, please contact the Office of Global Services.

Once you have completed the proper form and submitted it, your request will be reviewed by the university. You will receive email updates on the status of your submission at your Northeastern University student email account.

Formal acceptance to the Graduate School is contingent upon submission of an official transcript confirming the conferral of your bachelor’s degree (and master’s degree if applicable).

Official transcripts must be received directly from the reporting institution (electronically or by mail). If your institution offers the electronic delivery of official transcripts, please have your documents sent directly to [email protected]. Please note that this a no-reply email and is for incoming official transcripts only. For faster processing, please request to have your Applicant ID included on the transcript.

Alternatively, hard copy official transcripts can be sent via mail.  These transcripts must be submitted in a sealed and signed envelope from the issuing institution and can be sent to one of the mailing addresses below.

Northeastern University’s transcript policy requires enrolling graduate and professional degree program students to submit to Northeastern official transcripts including evidence of the completion of the bachelor’s degree and the date of degree conferral within 30 days from the start of their first academic term. Failure to complete this requirement will result in a registration hold being placed on the student’s account preventing future term course registration.

Students admitted to master’s and certificate programs have the option to defer their start date for one year.

To officially defer, students must submit their enrollment confirmation and non-refundable enrollment deposit. Deferral requests can be submitted via the application portal (select Manage Your Application > Requests > Submit a Request). Scholarship awards cannot be deferred; however, students are automatically reconsidered for scholarship funding for their new start term.

Once you have claimed your Northeastern account, you can access your Northeastern email via the Student Hub.

New students should register via the Student Hub as soon as possible for the term in which they are admitted. Visit the Registrar’s Office for the registration start date and procedure. If you’re unsure of the course(s) in which you should enroll, please contact your graduate program coordinator.

Please note, you will be prompted to complete the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA) via the Student Hub before registration.

All issues associated with bill payment, late fees, and billing discrepancies should be addressed directly with the Office of Student Financial Services (SFS).

Please note, students are required to accept the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA) each year. You will be prompted to complete the SFRA via the Student Hub.  Additional information is available via SFS here.

The health and well-being of our graduate students is a priority. Please review the important information below to ensure you meet the requirements of Massachusetts state law and understand your healthcare options.

Health Report 

All students must submit a health report that includes a physical exam within the last 12 months, documentation of a tuberculosis test within the last 10 years, and proof of immunity to tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps, and rubella.

Please complete the University Health Report from University Health and Counseling Services, and return it no later than 30 days prior to the start of classes. If you do not submit the form, Health Services will block you from registering for your second semester at Northeastern. 

Health Plans 

Graduate students are automatically charged for the Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP). If you have comparable Massachusetts-required insurance, you may elect to waive the Northeastern health plan by the waiver deadlines. The waiver form is available on the Student Hub. 

Public Transportation

Parking Permits

MasParc issues parking permits for Northeastern students who wish to commute by car. To obtain a parking sticker, please complete the parking permit application.
