Dialogue of Civilizations

Dialogue of Civilizations, offered during Summer 1 or Summer 2, is a uniquely engaging program that takes you around the world to focus on critical issues facing students and peers both locally and globally. You’ll spend around 30 days in-country with a faculty leader from Northeastern University, learning about a specific topic or course subject, broadening your horizons, and gaining the experience of a lifetime.

Music Dialogues

From exploring creative immersion in the countryside of Ireland to engaging with the avant-garde world of the fashion industry in Paris, there is a Dialogue for every Northeastern student. Past and future dialogues of particular interest of music students include:

  • Two four-credit courses: 1) Popular Music Since 1945; and 2) Music Festivals.
  • Excursions to historic sites in the history of popular music in and around London/Birmingham
  • Behind-the-scenes exposure to activities in the creation, curation, management and production of music festivals and other popular music events in and around the Birmingham/London area.
  • Two four-credit courses: 1) K-Pop Music Culture and Industry; 2) Korean Culture
  • Day trips to the DMZ, Joenju, and Nami Island.
  • Co-curricular site visits to Buckchon Housing Area, the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts, Yoensei University, and Seoul Tower
  • Two four-credit courses: 1) Viennese School—the Vienna of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven; 2) choice of electives from Salzburg College (German, Photo Aesthetics, Cultural Business & Marketing, and Understanding Austria).
  • Excursion multi-day trips to Vienna or Venice (student choice)
  • Day trips to Salzkamergut, Hallstatt, St. Florian Monestary and Hellbrun Palace
  • Visits in Salzburg to Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Mozart Residence Museum
  • Two four-credit courses: 1) Viennese School—the Vienna of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven; 2) Second Viennees School—Schoenberg, Weber, Berg (with music of Mahler, Strauss and Zemlinsky as context)
  • Excursion to Vienna (including State Opera House)
  • Day trips to Salzkamergut, Hallstatt, St. Florian Monestary and Hellbrun Palace
  • Visits in Salzburg to Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Mozart Residence Museum
