Katherine Chan, Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Music, recently participated in the 2019 World Choral Conducting Competition hosted by the World Youth and Children Choral Artists’ Association. She was one of the competition’s twelve finalists. Congratulations to Professor Chan for being named a finalist and competing in this international event!

The inaugural competition, which joins hands with the Utopia & Reality Chamber Choir – a versatile and international choir established in 2011 – took place in Hong Kong from July 11 – 15, 2019. Its goal is to help talented and rising conductors to establish an international conducting career, bridging the gap between professional training and professional life. Professor Chan competed among other internationally recognized conductors (view list of finalists here).

Professor Katherine Chan is an Australian conductor who is known for her energy and enthusiasm, now directing the Northeastern Choral Society Choir and Chamber Singers, while also teaching courses in conducting, fundamental theory and class piano.
