Northeastern NYC is centrally located in Manhattan and offers classes that allow students to experience the richness of the city. We combine professional theatre education and training with the liberal arts, teaching our students how to create compelling, informed, imaginative, and innovative theatre. Our students are exposed to great theatre — on Broadway, Off-Broadway, along Theatre Row, and downtown in experimental theatres — and they take advantage of the best of New York City’s co-op/internship opportunities.
Flexible and Tailored
Combine different concentrations in the BAand even add second majors or minors to create your own curriculum and professional path. Concentrations include Directing, in which students study the history of directing and learn to analyze texts, make conceptual choices, and guide actors in the rehearsal process; Theatre History and Performance Texts in which students explore dramatic literature, history, and criticism; Theatre and New Media, in which students embrace cross-disciplinary mediums; and Writing for the Stage, where those in the program study with professional playwrights based in New York City and begin to develop a body of work.
Experience Oriented
Take advantage of the city through internships with leading arts and cultural institutions, including Playwrights Horizons, New York Shakespeare Festival, Saturday Night Live, Nuyorican Poets Café, PBS, and many more. Whether you’re directing in our Bordeau Box, serving as dramaturg on a studio production, or hearing actors bring your new work to life, Northeastern allows you to make it happen.
