Architects and landscape architects play a critical role in engaging with some of the world’s most complex issues—from climate change to urban density, social and economic diversity to cultural preservation. The School of Architecture’s undergraduate and graduate programs aim to furnish each student with a deep understanding of the field’s fundamentals while developing a holistic perspective of architecture’s vast scope and impact. Three Campuses Fostering a Legacy of Agricultural Innovation, Appreciation, and Collaboration Across the Pioneer Valley
Caseta Design in Segovia
Architecture
Lydia Hauser completed this project in conjunction with two other students during her time at IE University in Segovia, Spain. The goal of the project was to design a small caseta located in a park that served as a branch of the local public library. These casetas brought books, games and learning into the community during the summer months. Lydia's group created a concept that used a flexible boundary to create space while also holding program.
Mapping the Past and Future of District 7
Architecture
Over the course of 2022-2023, Lily Song worked with community members of District 7 to show the stories of residents and how they grappled with gentrification and disrepair of public spaces.

By introducing a music festival to attract more tourists and investors to the region, this project aims to improve the living conditions of both locals and H-2A workers with light housing structures.

Introduces students to architecture, as understood through buildings, cities, and landscapes from antiquity to the present. Studies important monuments in the global history of architecture, as well as tools for analyzing the built environment. Considers buildings in relation to their political, social, economic, and cultural context, and as expressions of diversity in human societies and cultural perspectives.
Focuses on site planning and design with an emphasis on parks and open-space systems in the adaptive reuse of urban sites. Projects focus on the creation and cultivation of public space, transformation of site conditions, and development of sustainable site materials. Emphasizes site analysis, development of an individual design process, and design communication strategies. This studio course introduces students to urban design precedents, site research, and remediation methods.
