Examine comics as a narrative form with lessons on how to read comics, the creative practices of making comics and their history from “engraved novels” to current media. Authors in this course include Art Spiegelman, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, Lynda Barry, Keiji Nakazawa and Marjane Satrapi, among others.

Focus on building a framework for understanding many types of feminist cultural production that exist within visual culture and that themselves shape what “visual culture” means. Become grounded in key concepts and debates around issues like embodiment, subjectivity, spectatorship, and desire in a range of creative forms.

Develop and understanding for new materials and techniques that can improve the lives of disabled people. Our aim is to teach students to identify specific physiological deficiencies and formulate solutions that can be easily and inexpensively produced through ideation, iteration, prototyping and finished models.

Get an in-depth exploration into the process of creating sculpture. This studio class builds on the introductory experience of ARTF 1124, 3D Fundamentals with more advanced 3D concepts, materials, tools and techniques. Emphasizes personal exploration, concept development and creative innovation.

Find an introduction to how system-side AI works and how human-side mental models are made through critical readings, case studies, discussions and course projects. Students can also practice design, development, or user research skills to prepare for their future career in AI.

Uncover how the benefits of statistics and data analysis methods are not always distributed equitably across different groups. Here, students will learn how to see statistics and data analysis a design problem and explore these their applications to pressing social challenges and issues.
