Our Center’s affiliate members produce artistic work and creative practice research across Northeastern’s global network. With primary sites in Boston and Oakland, our community is a hub for the production and promotion of interdisciplinary artistic activity.

Juliana Barton

Director

Juliana Rowen Barton is a curator whose research centers on race, gender and design. She has worked on exhibitions at the Center for Craft and the Barnes Foundation, among others.

Dani Snyder-Young

Associate Professor, CfA Faculty Director

Dani Snyder-Young is a scholar of applied theatre and contemporary US activist performance. She leads the Data Theatre Collaborative, which has received Mellon Foundation funding.

    Assistant Professor

    Clareese Hill is a practice-based art researcher working in XR and Immersive Media. She has given performance lectures internationally.

  • Sarah Hirschman

    Associate Teaching Professor

    Sarah Hirschman is a partner at the architecture practice Object Projects. She has taught design studios at UC Berkeley, The Ohio State University, and MIT.

  • Hubert Ho

    Teaching Professor

    Hubert Ho’s music has been performed in Carnegie Hall and at the Kennedy Center. He is a former United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

  • Psyche Loui

    Associate Dean for Research, Associate Professor

    Psyche Loui is Associate Dean for Research, Associate Professor in the Department of Music and the director of the MIND (Music, Imaging, and Neural Dynamics) lab at Northeastern.

  • Andrew Mall

    Associate Professor

    Andrew Mall is a scholar of the music industry, arts administrator, musician, and teacher. He holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago.

  • Sylke Rene Meyer

    Professor of Creative Practice Research

    Sylke Meyer is a writer, director, media artist, performer, educator, and co-founder of the artist group Studio206 that operates from Berlin, Los Angeles and Providence.

  • Bill Stout

    Teaching Professor

    Bill Stout is a teaching professor of animation who got his start as a touring puppeteer. Before Northeastern, he chaired the Animation Department at the New York Film Academy.

  • Gloria Sutton

    Associate Professor

    Gloria Sutton is a contemporary art historian examining how art, technology, and feminism intersect to shape contemporary visual culture.

  • Ilya Vidrin

    Assistant Professor

    Ilya Vidrin is a performer and researcher. He is director of the Partnering Lab, an applied creative practice research initiative focusing on embodied ethics in social interaction.

  • Samantha Richert Boehm

    Associate Teaching Professor

    Samantha Richert Boehm is an actor, educator, and director in the Boston area. A proud member of Actor’s Equity Association, she has acted with numerous regional theaters in NE.

    Jonathan Carr is a director and a member of the Data Theatre Collective. He teaches Viewpoints, Directing, Introduction to Theatre, Introduction to Acting, and Improvisation.

  • Deirdre Loughridge

    Professor and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs

    Deirdre Loughridge is a musicologist whose research centers on the history of music, science, technology, and music’s roles in conceptions of “human” and “machine.”

    Professor

    Celia Pearce is a Professor of Game Design at Northeastern University. Her research explores multiplayer games, virtual worlds, live-action roleplay and playable theater.

  • Christine Blanco

    Makerspace Manager, 3D Fabrication and Ceramics

    Cristine Blanco (she/they) is the Makerspace Manager, 3D Fabrication and Ceramics, at the Oakland Northeastern campus, where she manages the Woodshop, Metal Shop, and Ceramics Studio. She is a Mills College MFA graduate and has been dedicated to supporting these creative spaces since 2019. As a sculpture artist with a background in both wood and metal fabrication, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the spaces.

  • Stephanie Hanor

    Director of the Mills College Art Museum

    Stephanie Hanor is Assistant Dean and Director of the Mills College Art Museum. She received her doctorate degree in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin (2003). Prior to joining the Mills College Art Museum, she was the Senior Curator and Curatorial Department Head at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. At MCASD she curated over 40 exhibitions and projects, including a series of site-specific installations featuring major works by Tara Donovan, Raymond Pettibon, and Nancy Rubins.

  • Sutanuka Jashu

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Sutanuka Jashu is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and researcher whose work explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, cultural memory, and speculative spatial systems. She recently served as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s CAMLab.

  • Ximena Lainfiesta

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Ximena Lainfiesta's research sits at the intersection of women's health, rights, communication, development, and technology. Her research and practice have been recognized with the Unilever Research Prize, two National Innovation Awards from Guatemala's SENACYT, and multiple full international scholarships.

  • Alayt Issak

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Alayt Issak's background stems from Mathematics and Studio art. She is currently conducting her dissertation research at the intersection of ethics, HAI (Human AI Interaction), and creativity. She has published annually at the International Conference on Computational Creativity (ICCC) as well as at CHI and C&C.

  • Jessica Roseman

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Jessica Roseman is a choreographer, somatic researcher, curator, and movement educator whose practice-based research explores how embodied attention shapes perception and participation in public space. Her projects have been presented by organizations including Movement Research, Miami Light Project, and at Institute of Contemporary Art Boston with Global Arts Live.

  • Sydney Purdue

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Sydney Purdue researches data visualization and physicalization, with a particular interest in how craft and artistic mediums can help us explore information in new ways. She is a member of the Khoury College Vis Lab and the Data Theatre Collaborative.

  • Josephine Ross

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Working at the intersection of theatre, education, and psychology, Josephine Ross (M.Ed.) focuses on community-engaged practice, exploring how the arts can serve as a vehicle for shared learning and connection. She currently serves as a graduate assistant with the Data Theatre Collaborative at Northeastern University and works as Theatre Coordinator at Hyde Square Task Force.

  • Monica Storss

    Ph.D. Student, Boston

    Monica Storss is a poet, researcher-theorist, and technologist working with emerging technologies for human flourishing. She is the creator of The Augmented Reality Poetry Machine and The Oracle, an AI model trained on her own writing corpus. Storss is a Scholar-in-Residence at the Digital Integration Teaching Initiative, a fellow at The Mills Institute, and founder of the Coven10 sci-art collective.

  • Feifei Shen

    Ph.D. Student, Oakland

    Feifei Shen is an artist, art educator, and researcher whose work focuses on art education, intergenerational learning, interactive media and technology, and social justice. She is the co-founder of FeelArts Studio, which offers community art education and healing workshops both online and in person. Previously, she served as Engagement Manager for AAPI art communities at the Pao Arts Center.
